It was nothing more

It was nothing more

a typical moon

hiding behind a tree

but this night

it resembled me.

See, I hide often

not allowing emotion to bleed

except when penning poetry

where there is no room for

make believe.

Oh, don’t get me wrong

I enjoy twisting words

like an abandoned highway

where spirits fly free

where dancing on a center line

with headlights on high beam

causes a heart to cry

every time.

It was nothing more than

a hidden moon

surrounded in blue

but I wished it could have been

me, with you.
